We (John and Kimberly) have been on a journey of raising a family for quite awhile and are happy to report we have survived the first several stages. Well, more than survived. Through all the bumps and bruises, we continue to hang out and have meaningful conversations with our young adult children.
A few years ago it hit us that while we were so focused on the immediate stresses of gathering our family around the dinner table, getting to ball games on time, and teaching our kids about Jesus, we didn’t give much thought to the longer-term “what’s next?” or “how does any of this set up success for grandchildren’s grandchildren?”
Why should it matter? We will be long gone.
But how we choose to live, whether it is intentional or it “just happens,” has an influence on our children – yes, we can kind of see this in different ways – and also the generations to follow.
